Pipe Replacement

November 11-16, 2013

The major water line pipe broke in our house while Wanda and I were in Florida on vacation.  Luckily, Conner was home and found it before it really destroyed anything.  However, since this was the 2nd leak we went through this year, we decided to take the plumbers' recommendation and replace all the galvinized pipes in the house.  Several of our neighbors had already had to do it and the neighbor across the street from us had the same company do it the same week we did.

The following pictures were taken after the work was completed on Saturdya, November 16, 2013.

The den / breakfast area where the leak originally occurred:

The kitchen area:

The main line was ran behind the dishwasher next to the kitchen sink

Lines were ran through the soffit above the cabinets in the kitchen and then across the ceiling for the refrigerator and wet bar in the den area

The utility room:

New lines to the water heater and for the dryer

This was the leak from earlier in the year where a patch had been put in.  We had been waiting to correct this until we got to do the whole house.

Den area:

Line ran to the wet bar

The big area above was caused by the leak that happened this month.  They had to replace the main line from one junction to another which requered cutting a length out of the ceiling through the den and breakfast area.  This was done to get the water working again until we could return home to help deal with it.  It turns out that this work was not needed for the replacement of all the pipes.  The couple of smaller additional holes were made to help run lines during the replacement.

Downstairs bathroom:

Had to call in a glass company to remove a large mirror so that they could cut into the wall to run the lines to the sink below the mirror.  The wall on the other side of the mirror is all hardwood and couldn't be touched.

Under the sinks

Various other lines in the bathroom for the toilet and the shower.

Downstairs closet off the bathroom:

Lines for the two outside faucets.  The ceiling had previous water damage that we hadn't fixed yet.

Upstairs main bedroom:

The picture on the right was where the tried to run the lines up from the kitchen into the attic first.  They had to adjust to the other side of our large window to be able to do it.

Attic:

Lines ran in the attic.

Guest room / play room:

An accident occurred when the lines were ran in the attic and the drain for the air conditioner was broken.  It took a day to show itself, but finally did on the first floor as the plumbers were finishing up their work.  After we figured out where it was coming from (since the water was turned off at this time) and why it was happening, the senior plumber went into the attic and corrected the problem.
